Modalities
"My sessions are typically a fusion of modalities. I assess what is happening in the client's body through a verbal intake, hands-on methods and intuitive guidance, then utilize techniques that will best serve the whole client and promote the body's innate ability to heal itself. If you are interested in having one or two modalities exclusively, this is possible as well."
CranioSacral Therapy (CST): subtle methods that assess and treat one of the body's base systems: the craniosacral system. The cerebrospinal fluid in the craniosacral system pulses around the brain and spinal chord in rhythm. This rhythm is read and techniques are employed to enhance flow, optimizing brain and nervous system function, and promoting well-being. Because it is a base system, shifts in it can have deep ripple effect of benefit throughout all other body systems. CST encourages deep relaxation.
Myofascial Release: The
fascia system (connective tissue that envelopes muscles, organs and
other soft tissue of body) plays a significant role in the overall health of the body, including muscle performance, organ performance, immune function and circulation. This technique assesses and addresses fascial imbalances. It can affect deep layers of tissue. As with CST, myofascial release promotes the body's innate power to heal itself. No oil or lotion is used, and the client can be clothed or unclothed.
NeuroMuscular Therapy (NMT): deep tissue work intended to break ischemic cycles in tissue, eliminate trigger points, and correct postural misalignments. Can be uncomfortable if adhesions and/or trigger points are present. An athlete favorite.
*I use NMT techniques within a session, and not as stand alone treatment. I recommend 75 minute or 90 minute session when requesting NMT work.
Pregnancy Massage: the childbearing body is an ever-changing landscape. The activity within the body is immense. Pregnancy massage is specialized work to serve both the mother and child. Special attention is paid to the upper and lower back, hips and feet.
Reflexology: massaging points in the feet (and sometimes hands and ears) that are reflex points to rest of the body-mind-spirit with goal of promoting general well-being and homeostasis.
The client remains clothed for session, relaxing on the massage table.
Reiki: pronounced "ray key." Stimulating, balancing, releasing energy flow in the body. Technique is light touch and, at times, work is done above and behind body without touch. (Our energy field flows beyond our physical being.) When done exclusive of other modalities, client is clothed. Client may feel tingling or warm sensations during or post Reiki work.
Client remains clothed for Reiki and no oil is used. Aromatherapy may be used at client's request. *Chakra Balancing included within Reiki session.
Stretching: passive (muscle relaxed) and active (muscle engaged) stretches to open joints, increase range of motion and support fluid and energy flow.
Swedish massage: techniques intended to relax the system, boost immunity, and increase circulation. The pressure is light to moderate with long sweeps to soothe and kneading to stimulate blood and lymph flow.
Shiatsu: an Eastern bodywork practice wherein the practitioner uses finger pressure (and sometimes palms, forearms and knees) to balance chi (life force energy) along the body's meridian system.
**I use shiatsu techniques within a session and not as a stand-alone treatment.
